Teeth Whitening FAQs
Everything you need to know before and after your professional teeth whitening treatment.
Results vary from person to person, but most clients see a noticeable improvement after just one professional teeth whitening treatment. At Beautifully You, clients typically achieve around 4–7 shades lighter in a single session.Your final result will depend on your natural tooth colour, the type and depth of staining, age, and lifestyle factors. Teeth with staining from coffee, tea, red wine or smoking often respond particularly well. We’ll assess your starting shade before treatment and compare it again afterwards, so you can see your individual result.
Professional teeth whitening can give you a brighter smile that lasts anywhere from several months to a few years, depending on your lifestyle, oral hygiene and how often you enjoy things like coffee, tea and red wine.Looking after your teeth and being mindful of staining foods and drinks will help keep your smile looking brighter for longer. To keep your results looking their best, we recommend professional teeth whitening approximately once a year to refresh and maintain your brighter smile.
A professional teeth whitening treatment at Beautifully You is $299.Your appointment includes the complete professional whitening treatment using our LED whitening system, along with a before-and-after shade comparison so you can see the difference in your smile.Treatments are carried out in our private Rukuhia, Waikato studio, conveniently located for clients from Hamilton, Cambridge, Te Awamutu and the surrounding Waikato area.
Most people don’t experience any sensitivity during or after their professional teeth whitening treatment and find the whole experience comfortable and easy.If you do notice some sensitivity, it’s usually mild and temporary and settles quickly after treatment. If you already have sensitive teeth, just let me know before your appointment so we can chat about it and make sure whitening is the right option for you.If you have ongoing tooth sensitivity, dental pain or concerns about the health of your teeth, it’s always a good idea to have a quick check with your dentist before whitening.

Your professional teeth whitening appointment takes just on an hour, making it an easy treatment to fit into your day.Once you're settled in, you can simply lie back and relax while the whitening treatment gets to work. We’ll also compare your tooth shade before and after your treatment so you can see your result straight away. You'll leave with a noticeably brighter, fresher-looking smile without having to wait for hours.
Crowns, veneers, fillings and composite bonding can appear brighter after a professional whitening treatment, particularly if they have picked up surface staining over time from things like coffee, tea, red wine or smoking.Whitening can help lift some of this extrinsic surface staining, giving restorations a cleaner, fresher appearance. However, it won’t change the underlying colour or original shade of the dental material itself in the same way it can lighten natural teeth. If you have visible dental work and you're unsure what results to expect, just let us know before your appointment and we can chat about it with you.
Professional teeth whitening is suitable for many people, however there are a few situations where we may recommend postponing treatment or checking with your dentist first.Teeth whitening may not be suitable if you:Are pregnant or breastfeedingHave untreated tooth decay or cavitiesHave active gum diseaseHave cracked, damaged or painful teethExperience significant or unexplained tooth sensitivityHave recently had dental treatment and have been advised to wait before whiteningHave any other dental or oral health concerns that may need to be assessed firstIf you have crowns, veneers, fillings or composite bonding, this doesn't necessarily mean you can't have your teeth whitened. We’ll simply discuss what results you can realistically expect, as these materials respond differently from natural teeth. If you're unsure whether whitening is right for you, please get in touch before booking. We're always happy to chat through your individual circumstances.
Yes, professional teeth whitening can be a fantastic option for improving the appearance of everyday staining caused by things like coffee, tea, red wine and smoking. How much your teeth brighten will depend on the type and depth of the staining and your natural tooth colour, which is why everyone's result is unique. We’ll record your shade before your treatment and compare it afterwards so you can see your individual improvement.
There’s very little you need to do to prepare for your appointment.Brush and floss your teeth as normal on the day of your treatment, but please avoid using toothpaste for 2 hours before your appointment, as recommended for our professional whitening system (please brush with water only just before you arrive so your teeth are clean and free from food or debris.)If you're due for a professional dental clean or have noticeable plaque or tartar build-up, having this taken care of beforehand can help create the best foundation for your whitening treatment. If you have sensitive teeth, crowns, veneers, bonding or anything else you think we should know about, just let us know before your appointment.
For the first 24 hours after whitening, giving your freshly brightened smile a little extra care can help you get the most from your results.Where possible, its advised to stick to as "white" a diet as possible, think chicken, cheese, potatoes, champagne, limit strongly coloured foods and drinks such as coffee, tea, red wine and dark sauces, as well as smoking. If you do have something that may stain, rinsing your mouth with water afterwards is a simple way to help. After that, good oral hygiene and being mindful of staining foods and drinks will help keep your smile looking fresh and bright for longer.
